Statoil out of Nigeria!

The Norwegian Nigeria Campaign
The Norwegian Council for Africa is a member of The Norwegian Nigeria Campaign along with a number of other Norwegian organisations.

Nigeria is on of the world's most brutal military regimes. In November 1995 the Nobel-prize nominated author, human-rights activist and environmentalist Ken Saro-Wiwa was executed together with eight other human-rights activists from the Ogoni-people because of their protests against the oil-industry's devastating effects on the environment in Nigeria. The execution led to the start of The Nigeria Campaign here in Norway.

The aims of The Norwegian Nigeria Campaign are to give support to human-rights- and environment-organisations in Nigeria, to put pressure on the Norwegian state oil company Statoil to terminate its operations in Nigeria, and to work for an international oil-boycott of Nigeria.

The Norwegian Nigeria Campaign was established on the initiative of a number of environment organisations, trade unions, solidarity organisations and human rights organisations. The demands and aims of the campaign are embedded in a platform. So far 31 organisations have joined the campaign:
